sweat to the seat.
astronaut, I’m uncovering the galaxies,
tearing off the sheets to find
lost underneath, a little bit of mary,
pieces of the girl with the leg braces
one foot off second, tensed up ready to steal third,
the slow moments,
joanne pitching a softball, her right arm
winding towards the underhand
careful,
we lie in between the stanzas
still, holding our breaths.
